——HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY——
Mother’s Day is here — the time of the year when we shout "I love you, Mom!" without a second thought...
But wait — if you’re in China, it’s a little different.
In many Western cultures, saying "I love you" is totally normal, even daily.
In Chinese culture?
It’s much more subtle, much more reserved, and maybe... a little bit awkward if you say it too directly
So, how do Chinese people express love for their moms?
Not with "我爱你 (wǒ ài nǐ)" directly.
Instead, you’ll hear beautiful and meaningful phrases like:
1"您辛苦了" (Nín xīnkǔ le)
→ "Thank you for your hard work."
(Hidden meaning: "I see all that you do for me. I love you.")
2"注意身体" (Zhùyì shēntǐ)
→ "Take care of your health."
(Hidden meaning: "I care about you deeply.")
3"我请您吃饭" (Wǒ qǐng nín chīfàn)
→ "Let me treat you to a meal."
(Hidden meaning: "You are important to me.")
4"早点休息" (Zǎodiǎn xiūxí)
→ "Rest early."
(Hidden meaning: "I’m thinking about you.")
In Chinese culture, actions often speak louder than words.
Cooking a meal, sending a small gift, or even reminding Mom to wear a coat — these are all ways of saying "I love you" without actually saying it!
